Leslie Norton - Horn Trios

Leslie Norton's album Horn Trios, produced by Lawson White (David Lang, Alarm Will Sound, So Percussion), features Paul Lansky, Lowell Liebermann, and Gerard Schwarz's take on the Horn Trio instrumentation as inaugurated in 1865 by Johannes Brahms with his Trio in E♭, opus 40. On this recording, Leslie is joined by Vanderbilt colleagues violinist Carolyn Huebl and pianists Melissa Rose and Mark Wait. Horn Trios will be released in April 2019 by Good Child Music.

Honoring the 75th birthday of composer Paul Lansky and the release of Leslie Norton's album Horn Trios on Brooklyn-based label Good Child Music, Leslie Norton and Blair colleagues Carolyn Huebl (violin), Kathryn Plummer (viola), Melissa Rose (piano), Molly Barth (flute), Ji Hye Jung (percussion), Kirstin Agresta Copely (harp) and students at the Blair School of Music will perform works by Paul Lansky, including selections from Threads (for percussion quartet), Book of Memory (for flute, harp and viola), Etudes and Parodies (Horn Trio), and a montage of his electronic music.

Grammy-award winning Leslie Norton is one of the premier French horn players in the United States. She is the principal of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, is an Associate Professor at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music, has played with the Atlanta Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, Grant Park Orchestra, and has played on countless records as a session musician in Nashville.

Principal horn Leslie Norton joined the Nashville Symphony in 1990, under the baton of Kenneth Schermerhorn. She has enjoys a diverse musical lifestyle as a college educator, chamber music artist, and recording studio musician.
Upon graduating from the Eastman School of Music, Norton joined the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra as principal horn at age 23. She taught at the University of Evansville and Western Kentucky University before moving to Nashville. Along the way, she has performed with the Rochester Philharmonic, the Atlanta Symphony, the Evansville Philharmonic, and the Grant Park Orchestra. She served on the faculty of the Eastern Music Festival for 20 years, and in 1989, she joined the faculty of Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music, becoming an associate professor in 2010.
Norton is a founding member of Alias Chamber Ensemble and performs regularly with the Blair Woodwind Quintet and Blair Brass Quintet. She has released two chamber music CDs. This Road We’re On is a collection of commissioned works for her and husband, percussionist Chris Norton. Horn Trios, featuring works by Lowell Liebermann, Gerard Schwarz, and Paul Lansky performed with Vanderbilt colleagues violinist Carolyn Huebl and pianists Melissa Rose and Mark Wait, will be released on Good Child in April 2019.
