THANK YOU (____)
Instrumentation: Snare drum
Thank You (____) was written for Tom Sherwood and his 2012 Modern Snare Drum Competition.
This piece is about the performer as much as it is about the snare drum. Unlike most snare drum solos, no drumsticks are used to play this piece! Instead, both the snare drum and the performer's voice become the instruments, and mallets, rattan shafts, brushes, fingers, coins and the even the performer's voice are used to play the drum.
The piece was written as a thank you letter of sorts to Jason's favorite snare drummer, and in turn, each performance becomes just that - a thank you letter to the performer's favorite snare drummer.
